Sunrise Elopement at Moraine Lake
This sunrise elopement at Moraine Lake in Banff National Park was such a beautiful fall morning. You may remember Beatrix and Chris from their smokey engagement session at Lake Minnewanka that we posted a few weeks ago. This fun couple from Manitoba planned this amazing mountain elopement after Chris proposed to Bea one year earlier at this exact location. They fell in love with the scenery and couldn’t think of a more fitting place to get married.
Planning a Sunrise Elopement in Banff National Park
During the summertime in Banff, the days are long which means that sunrise is often very early. It takes a little extra planning to pull off a sunrise elopement but we think it’s so worth it for the amazing light, quieter locations and overall amazing feeling at this time of day. If you are going to get up and watch the sunrise on any day you might as well make it your wedding day!
As we have been lucky enough to help plan quite a few of these beautiful ceremonies at sunrise we have put together some resources on our blog that may help with planning your own. These include how to plan an elopement in 10 easy steps and how to create an elopement timeline for your day.
A Beautiful Fall Morning in the Mountains
We met Bea and Chris at the Chateau Lake Louise well before dawn. There was exciting energy in the room as Bea was getting her makeup done and Chris was adjusting his suit. Together we drove by moonlight to the Moraine Lake parking lot which fills up quickly with photographers and sightseers to watch the sunlight up the famous mountain range. We met with their wonderful officiant Klaus, and the boys headed up the rockpile while Bea got into her dress to get ready for their first look. Climbing over rocks as the light began to reveal the views around us, Bea made her way over to Chris. They had a moment together at this beautiful location before beginning their elopement ceremony.
The entire morning could not have been more perfect. They exchanged intimate vows and promised their love to one another with the mountains as their witness. After the paperwork was signed we said goodbye to Klaus and explored around the lake for their portraits. Moraine Lake has so many amazing viewpoints which gives you so much variety in your photos while staying in one location. We then made our way back to Lake Louise where Chirs and Bea were staying the night and took a few portraits before saying goodbye.
We hope you enjoy looking through this beautiful elopement morning featuring icy blue lakes and golden mountains.
