Marie & Francis
Mount Assiniboine Post-Wedding Session
This Mount Assiniboine post-wedding session was such an amazing evening. You may recognise Marie and Francis from our blog post a few weeks ago. If you haven’t checked out their intimate wedding story at Mount Engadine Lodge you can check it out here:
Kananaskis Wedding at Mount Engadine Lodge
When Marie and Francis got in contact with us they were in the process of re-working their wedding plans. Just like many of our couples, their initial weddings were starting to take a different form due to COVID restrictions.
New Plans and Serendipitous Dates
One amazing idea that they had was getting portraits taken in Mt Assiniboine Provincial Park in BC. Marie and Francis had been lucky to book a spot in the Nasiet huts for a hiking trip and thought it would be an amazing place for some epic wedding photos. They told us the dates that they had booked and we couldn’t believe it! We had booked the same hut for the night before them and were going to be there anyway. It was just meant to be and we stayed an extra night to book in a sunset session in this incredible place.
Mt Assiniboine is one of our favourite places in the Canadian Rockies. To try and describe the views just wouldn’t do it justice. You can only get there by helicopter or hiking 30km through the mountain. This means when you arrive you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. It’s one of the most beautiful feelings in the world.
While staying in the park you have to backpack or heli everything you need for your trip and there are a few options for accommodation. The Mount Assiniboine Lodge, The Nasiet Huts and Campsites. With limited accommodation available it also keeps numbers down so the jaw-dropping trails and scenery are quiet. Something that can’t be said for a lot of the Banff area.
Mountain Top Views and Sunset Lit Peaks
We feel so lucky every time we get to explore the park and this time was no exception. After meeting Marie and Francis at their Cabin, they packed up their wedding gear and a picnic into their backpacks and we took off to explore the area. We hiked through the mountains and found a beautiful spot by the lake for the most incredible charcuterie spread we have ever seen in the backcountry.
We then made our way up to our favourite viewpoint for sunset. The weather was incredible making this mountain top location almost bearable in Marie’s backless wedding dress. This is something we can’t say too often while shooting in mountains in Canada! There was just enough wind to let her long train flow through the stunning landscape. We had so much fun with Marie and Francis and we can’t thank them enough for having us create these wild memories for them!
