Canmore Winter Wedding at The Malcolm Hotel
This Canmore Winter Wedding at The Malcolm Hotel was such a beautiful day to be a part of. The Malcolm Hotel is a new venue located in Canmore and we were so excited to shoot our first wedding here. Located in Spring Creek between two beautiful rivers, it has such a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains while still being central to the town centre.
The winter season is such a beautiful time to get married in the mountains. Over the past few years, we have seen an explosion in tourism during the summer in the Bow Valley area. The winter offers a slower pace and a more intimate vibe.
The Beginnings
Chantal and Ryan began the day with a traditional Chinese Tea ceremony, nodding to Ryan’s heritage. We were greeted by Chantal in a radiant red dress and watched as the couple offered tea to their family in exchange for gifts and warm embraces. It was such a beautiful way to start the day. In Chinese culture, both the bride and groom serve tea to both sides of the parents, representing an important moment in which members of both families become relatives of each other.
The couple then went back upstairs to get ready for their ceremony. Chantal exchanged her red silk dress for a beautiful white gown and wrapped her hair up in an elegant bun. The girls even had time for a little dance party while we waited for all their guests to gather in the Edinburgh Ballroom.
An Indoor Winter Ceremony
Chantal walked down the aisle to meet Ryan under a triangle arch (which her father hand made). It was decorated with beautiful greenery that matched the girl’s bouquets perfectly. Behind them, the iconic Three Sisters mountains towered above them through the floor to ceiling glass windows. It was such a beautiful indoor ceremony location. We watched as they exchanged their vows, placed their bands on each other’s hands and made promises to each other to respect and honour the love that they have built and will continue to build.
The Adventure
As we were driving around to a few of our favourite portrait locations in Canmore, Chantal and Ryan were telling us about their epic honeymoon plans. Most of us dream of quitting our jobs, packing up our possessions, putting only the essentials into a backpack and travelling the world. Well, these two are doing just that! They plan to be roaming the world for a year and living the dream. In our opinion, it’s the perfect way to begin a marriage! They have a list of countries that they both want to explore but are keeping their plans open to where the journey will take them.
These two are surrounded by such a wonderful community. All of their friends and family created such incredible energy in the room at their reception. There were thoughtful speeches, hilarious games, and a wild dance floor. It was so wonderful to photograph these memories of such a beautiful couple. Their sense of adventure and love for one another was amazing to witness and we wish them all the happiness in their lives together.
