Banff Winter Skating Engagement
This Banff Winter Skating Engagement at Lake Minnewanka was such a fun way to enjoy the cold winter weather. Katie and Ryan met playing hockey and therefore wanted to celebrate this through some engagement photos out on the ice. We were lucky to get a ‘mild’ day at a balmy -8 degrees. You may laugh, but it felt like summer compared to the -40 weather Edmonton was having where Katie and Ryan had just traveled from. It was clear that this couple was used to the cold weather, pulling up in their truck with a thermos of hot chocolate in one hand and their skates in the other.
Lake Minnewanka
Lake Minnewanka is just one of the many lakes in Banff National Park that freeze over in the winter. We brought shovels just in case we had to clear a section to skate on. After walking out onto the lake, we found a large section that had been wind blown and ready to skate. With the mountains towering above us in all directions it was such an amazing location to watch these guys pass the puck around.
Winter Engagement Shoot
Winter has to be one of the most picturesque seasons to take photos in the mountains but with this beauty comes challenges as well. The temperatures are chilly and you have to do your research and be prepared out in the elements. Above all, dressing warm is essential. You won’t have fun if you don’t have gloves and warm boots to keep your hands and feet from freezing. Bringing hot drinks and hand warmers will give you those little boosts of warmth you will need to keep you going out in the snow.
Katie and Ryan were so easy to get along with, and we had such a wonderful afternoon getting to know them both. We can hardly wait to see them tie the knot in the mountains later this year!
