Sunrise Adventure Wedding Photos

These sunrise adventure wedding photos show just why we love living and taking photos in the Canadian Rocky Mountains! Views like this have to be seen to be believed and we think hiking up a mountain is the perfect way to celebrate a wedding day!

How Our Love for Landscape Photography Influences Our Work

It’s no secret that we love landscape photography. We both started our photography journey’s as primarily landscape photographers taking photos of our travels and working on tourism campaigns. As we entered the wedding world we didn’t lose this focus in our work. We always aim to celebrate each unique landscape that we are lucky to explore with our couples.

Why Hiking Up A Mountain Makes Everything Less Awkward

The most beautiful moments occur when we interact with our environment in natural ways. We love when our couples fit seamlessly into the landscape. The most common fear we hear from our clients is ‘we are so awkward in front of the camera.’ We undertand! It’s so challenging to feel natural when a camera is being pointed in your face. But trust us, when you choose to go on an adventure for your photos it makes it so much easier to get candid moments as you are doing something you love in a beautiful place! Exploring the views that surround you will take your mind off the camera so you can simply enjoy each other’s company and the place you are in.

Choosing to Hike at Sunrise or Sunset?

We always suggest planning your adventure wedding photo session around the nicest light in the day, sunrise and sunset. Both have beautiful soft light for portraiture and if you are lucky you can get some incredible colours on the mountains and in the sky. There are a few things to consider to help you make your choice:

  1. Location. Each hike will have views that face different directions. Consider where the sun will be and what will light up to decide on the best time of day.
  2. Time of Day. It’s important to think about the whole day and what you want to experience. Sunrise can be extremely early in the summer months so you won’t want to plan anything else for the rest of the day. Sunset often collides with dinner time and you will be out late into the evening.
  3. Weather. Sunrise is often calmer in the mountains whereas the wind can pick up later in the day. However, temperatures are often cooler in the mornings in comparison to the evenings.

Finding the Perfect Location for Your Day

One of the hardest parts of planning an adventure wedding day is choosing your location. With so many incredible hikes in the area, it can be overwhelming to decide on a location. Our advice is always to pick what feels right to you both and what you want to experience together. There is no perfect location and every hike and view is different. The most important thing is that you are outside having fun and great photos will come out of that!
