Banff Winter Helicopter Wedding

This Banff winter helicopter wedding was such a unique and memorable way to get married. The stunning scenery of Banff National Park, with its snow-capped mountains, provides a breathtaking backdrop for an intimate wedding ceremony. Plus, a helicopter ride can provide a pretty exciting way to get on top of a mountain. Which always adds some extra adventure to the day.

A Lakeside First Look on a Bluebird Day

Desiree, Davis and their family based themselves in Canmore for their trip to the Canadian Rockies. A small mountain town just east of Banff filled with lots of accommodation options and delicious restaurants. As we were planning out their day they knew they wanted to have a mountaintop ceremony with their immediate family present. We decided to plan their first look at one of the lakes on the drive up to the heli base to take advantage of the beautiful scenery.

We were lucky with a perfect day! The sun lit up the fresh snow covering the fall leaves and lakeshore. Desiree walked out to meet Davis in her lace dress and pink suede boots. A bright blue sky and white-capped peaks as their backdrop.

An Intimate Ceremony Surrounded by Snowy Peaks

The next part of the adventure was spent driving north to the Rockies Heli base. A bright red helicopter flew us through the valley giving us the most spectacular views of the Canadian Rockies blanketed in fresh snow. Due to the amazing conditions, we were able to land at a high elevation with 360-degree views and lots to explore. While we waited for the helicopter to do a second trip to bring up their family members we hiked around to find the perfect place for their ceremony.

When everyone arrived we all gathered at the spot we found just a short hike from where the heli landed. A flat snow-covered area with breathtaking mountain views behind. Davis’ father led everyone through the most beautiful ceremony. The soft winter sun lit up ice crystals surrounding us like confetti. After they said I do and everything was official we poured some hot chocolate and Baileys to celebrate and warm up and we watched D and D share their first dance.

The Most Beautiful Sunset at 10,000 Ft

After the first helicopter took the guests back to base, we flew up even higher for D and D’s portraits at sunset. Perched up on top of one of the highest peaks in the area we watch the sun dip below the horizon and create the most beautiful colours throughout the sky. There we took photos walking around a mountaintop winter landscape with a pastel-painted sky of pinks and purples.
