Spring Helicopter Elopement in Banff Alberta

This spring helicopter elopement in Banff, Alberta was such a stunning day filled with epic snowy mountain views in the Canadian Rockies.
We adore Kelsey and Tom and their love for one another. It was truly an honor to document how they see the world and experience life together.

Kelsey, being an incredible elopement photographer herself reached out to us with a vision of what she was hoping for her day. They wanted the day to feel like a vacation. No stress, no fuss, just them in the mountains enjoying every moment. The day unfolded just as they had hoped, waking up slowly in a cabin in the mountains. Easing into the day with coffee and yoga before getting ready into their wedding attire.

Planning a Helicopter Elopement in the Spring

The Spring in the Canadian Rockies is a beautiful time of year. Everything is beginning to thaw from a long winter and snow still covers the mountain peaks. There is a calmness in the air before the busy summer season kicks in. It’s a lovely time to explore by helicopter as some of the hiking trails can still be covered in snow.
Kelsey and Tom decided to plan their helicopter tour later in the evening to take advantage of golden hour. This meant that they had the whole day to explore together before we took off and we couldn’t wait to show them all of our favourite sites including forests, lakes and canyons!

Private Vows on top of the World

The flight through the valley really takes your breath away. I looked back at Kelsey as we came to land on top of a cliff and her hands gripped tightly to Toms. Tears were streaming down her face. Concerned, I asked her if she was ok and if she was scared. She shook her head and told me how overwhelmingly perfect this all was. The isolation, the incredible views, just them on top of a mountain getting married!

We stepped out of the helicopter and the views towered all around us. It was chilly up at 8000ft so Kelsey and Tom decided to do their private ceremony first while their hands were still warm. With a valley of trees below them they laughed and cried as they relived their relationship and declared their deep love for one another. With shiny new rings on their fingers and big smiles on their faces, we spent the evening exploring the rocky outcrops.

A Late Night Campfire to end a Perfect Day

After we got back down to base we decided to soak up the last little bit of light with a campfire down by the lake. We roasted hot dogs and marshmallows and reflected on what might have been the most perfect spring elopement day in Banff. We only spent a little bit of time with these two beautiful humans but we left feeling like we had two new best friends.
