Epic Adventure Elopement in Patagonia

This spring we had the honour of documenting this epic adventure elopement in Patagonia. Nothing could have prepared us for the breathtaking beauty of this remote and spectacular region. Patagonia is renowned for its dramatic landscapes, towering mountains, and vast stretches of wilderness, but it is truly a place that must be seen to be believed.

Planning an Adventure-Fueled Elopement in Patagonia

This story began almost 3 years ago when our first attempt to travel to this place was cancelled due to the pandemic. It was a devastating experience, but we took comfort in knowing that we would eventually make the journey when the timing was right. Fast forward a few years, and we began planning our trip once again. This time we decided to take a chance and share our plans with the world to see if anyone wanted to join us and elope in this beautiful place. That’s when we met Kim and Justin.

Kim and Justin were acquainted with each other through their healthcare roles, but it wasn’t until a work Christmas party that they connected on a deeper level. After a few dates, they knew they were meant to be. They both share a love for the mountains and travelling and when they saw our post about our availability in Patagonia, Kim told us that it checked all the boxes for how they wanted to celebrate their love. We got to work right away, planning this epic adventure to one of the most remote locations in the world!

Travelling to Patagonia is no easy feat. It’s at least 3 flights and a bus ride to get you to one of the mountainous regions of Chile or Argentina. After doing some extensive research in both areas, Kim and Justin decided to base themselves in El Chalten for their elopement and explore the breath taking hikes around Los Glaciares National Park. We found the most beautiful Airbnb to call our home base and had a list of hikes that we wanted to explore to fill our few days there.

Navigating Wild Weather in the Mountains

Patagonia’s weather is known for its wild and unpredictable nature. In just a few days we experienced all four seasons, with rain, sun, snow and everything in-between. The region’s strong winds are also notorious, with gusts reaching over 100 miles per hour. However, it’s these weather conditions that make Patagonia’s so incredible to photograph. From the snow-capped peaks of the Andes to the rugged coastline and glaciers, the constantly changing weather creates an ever-shifting canvas of natural wonders to explore.

The first day we arrived in El Chalten the rain set in. After a long travel day the day before we decided to get cozy and have a chill day indoors. Justin and Kim embraced the Argentinian culture by making maté and eating empanadas while writing out their vows. We watched the skies clear and decided to make the most of the evening with a first look at sunset up on the hill above town. It ended up being an incredible night with the most beautiful colours filling the sky.

A Serendipitous Elopement Ceremony in front of Fitz Roy

The most famous view in Los Glaciares National Park is the Fitz Roy Range. Anyone travelling to this area is hoping to get a glipse of the perfect towering peaks that dominate the landscape. These rugged and majestic peaks are often covered in clouds and had been for our entire stay in the park thus far. On our final day, we planned to go on one more hike to find the perfect spot to share their vows. After a few hours into our hike we noticed the clouds were starting to lift. We found a viewpoint and as Kim and Justin got changed into their dress and suit the last remaining clouds lifted to reveal the view we had all been dying to see. It was the most serendipitous moment.

A Perfect Night to End an Adventure of a Lifetime

After their intimate ceremony we continued on to a remote mountain lake for sunset. As we climbed higher, the wind began to subside, and a shimmering blue lake came into view. We explored the shoreline, taking photos and marveling at one of the most beautiful views we had ever seen. As we started to make our way back to town, the sun set behind us, and the full moon began to rise in front of us. The moon was so bright that it illuminated all the surrounding mountains, providing the perfect end to this epic adventure elopement.

We can’t thank these two incredible humans for trusting us to document their love in such a wild place. The experiences we shared together have become some of our most cherished memories. We hope their kind, adventurous spirits shine through in these images.
