Misty Kananaskis Intimate Wedding
Chelsea & Karmen
Canmore Hiking Wedding Photography
This Canmore hiking wedding was such an amazing day to photograph. Adventuring high above the clouds in the mountains celebrating this beautiful couple’s love.
From the very beginning, Chelsea and Karmen knew they wanted to plan something small and intimate with their immediate family. No fuss, just them, the forest and the mountains. They spent months leading up to their wedding hiking different trails around Canmore, Alberta. All to find the perfect views for their portraits and ceremony. This is such a beautiful way to get out and spend time together leading up to your intimate wedding or elopement if you are local to the area. When you can call hiking every weekend ‘wedding planning’ you know you’re onto a good thing.
Hiking Through the Clouds at Sunrise
When you see sunshine, cloud and rain forecasted all in one morning you know you’re in for an incredible shoot. You never know what the weather is going to bring in the mountains so you have to be prepared for anything.
We met up with Chelsea and Karmen and geared up at the trailhead. As we hiked up by the light of our headlamps we could see the mist of the clouds all around us. This made for the most incredible dusk images of their headlamps filtering through the clouds as we hiked along the ridgeline. We set up a tarp in the trees and these two beautiful brides helped each other into their stunning dresses. They complimented each other perfectly with soft flowing skirts detailed with lace.
As we explored along the top of the ridge the clouds rolled over us, revealing small glimpses of mountains. As the sun got higher and we hiked a little lower we came out of the clouds to the wildest views. The light, clouds and scenery of this morning couldn’t have been more perfect for these two. It was something out of a dream.
An Intimate Lakeside Ceremony
We could have stayed up on the ridge taking photos forever but it was time to head down and meet their family for their lakeside ceremony. Chelsea and Karmen had found the perfect little spot on the rocks and while we were hiking down, their brother had set up an Arbour he made from copper piping to compliment the shape of the mountains in the background.
The girls were warmly met by their family and pup with coffee and handpicked flowers and we all walked down to meet their officiant to make it official! The ceremony site was stunning and the clouds that we had just hiked through still clung to the tops of the peaks. We all watched from the rocky landscape as they shared their vows, exchanged beautiful golden rings and chose each other. It was nothing less than perfect.
Afterwards, just as it started to rain we all huddled in the forest for a picnic of sandwiches and champagne. As I looked around at all raincoats and happy faces I couldn’t think of a more perfect way to start the rest of your life together.
