Nordegg Heli Elopement

This Nordegg Heli Elopement was filled with so many special moments. It made us appreciate all the incredible things you can plan on one elopement day! Amber and Taylor had initially planned to get married in Scotland but due to the current pandemic, they had to alter their original plans. They decided they didn’t wait to postpone their wedding and instead decided to get married locally. These two are from Edmonton and chose to elope in the Nordegg area. Not a bad plan B if you ask us!

The Nordegg and Abraham Lake Area

The Nordegg and Abraham Lake Area is one of the most underrated areas in the Rockies. When most people think of Alberta’s mountains they picture the peaks in Banff National Park or Lake Louise. There is so much more to explore off the main tourist trail and this area is a great example of that! Located west of Red Deer, you drive through the prairies to get to Nordegg, a little town within Clearwater County on the North Saskatchewan River. Around the bend, you begin to see the mountains appear. This area has so much to explore. From waterfalls, canyons and rivers to incredible hiking and backcountry trips. Amber and Taylor wanted to experience a little bit of everything so together we created a timeline that matched their vision.

Their Story

Their day began at the Prairie Creek Inn just outside of Rocky Mountain House. They got ready together in a beautiful little cabin in the forest. Their Officiant Tammy Burke then met us and we all walked down to a beautiful little field on the property next to the river. After a short and sweet ceremony, they were married and it was time to go on an adventure to celebrate!

We loaded up our vehicles with hiking gear, firewood, champagne, their cinnamon bun wedding cake and hit the road. Our first stop was Crescent Falls. Crescent Falls is a stunning waterfall on the Ram River. It’s a special place as you can hike down to the base and explore the falls. We could have stayed there all day but we had an trip with Rockies Heli Canada to get to.

Rockies Heli Canada

We took off in a little red helicopter with Ralph the pilot to find some epic mountain views! As we hovered over the peaks we could see some weather coming in from the West which we were excited about. This mean’t we would get some beautiful dramatic skies. We found a perfect little saddle with a pretty peak to hike up to and Ralph lowered us down. There is something so surreal about being placed into the wilderness like that. It’s as if you’re plucked off the earth and placed instantly on top of a mountain with no civilization as far as the eye can see. We hiked up the ridge and explored the area as Amber and Taylor found a perfect little spot to say their vows which they had saved just for this moment.

Campfire Under the Stars

After the helicopter tour, we couldn’t wait to find the perfect place to build a fire, warm up and eat cake! We knew just the place! Perched upon a rocky cliff overlooking Abraham Lake we watched day turn into night. Amber and Taylor kept some wedding traditions but did it in their own way. They popped a bottle, cut the cake and then got all cosy together by a campfire overlooking the mountains. What a way to spend your adventure elopement night! We had so much fun with these two and we were so honoured to be able to create these memories of such an incredible day adventuring in the mountains.
