Snowy Hiking Elopement in Canada: The Ultimate Adventure
When Erin and George shared their vision of their elopement day with us, they dreamt of an intimate ceremony with a beautiful backdrop. Their hearts were set on the Canadian Rockies after visiting a few years ago. The towering peaks and pristine landscapes offered the perfect backdrop for their day.
Planning their Dream Elopement
Choosing a date in mid-September, Erin and George aimed to capture the transitional beauty of late summer merging into fall. While September in the Rockies often brings cool temperatures and vibrant foliage, they were prepared for the region’s unpredictable weather. Historically, Banff National Park experiences average temperatures ranging from 3.8°C to 17.4°C this month, with occasional early snowfall dusting the peaks.
A Morning Above the Clouds
We always do a final weather check before heading out on any elopement adventure. On this particular morning, we saw signs that we could be hiking through the clouds. As we came up over the ridgeline, the creeping first light began to reveal our surroundings. To our surprise, we were greeted by a breathtaking cloud inversion. A meteorological phenomenon where cooler air is trapped near the ground by warmer air above, causing clouds to settle in the valleys. This created the illusion of walking above a sea of clouds, with mountain peaks piercing through like islands. Such inversions are rare and often occur during calm, clear conditions, making their experience all the more magical.
Capturing the Moment
As their photographers, we are well-versed in shooting in diverse mountain conditions and were so excited when we saw what a morning we were in for. We ran around capturing the sweeping views and fleeting details of the snow on the ground, that we knew would melt away in the coming hours.
Words from the couple
“From the moment we stumbled across their Instagram page, we knew Willow and Wolf had to be part of our special day. Bec and Andrew were absolutely amazing and went above and beyond what we hoped for as our wedding elopement photographers. They not only produced stunning pictures, but they had thought of everything, from having spare blankets, coats, mittens and hand warmers to keep us warm in the snow, to Bec being on hand to secure my veil with spare grips. They instantly made us feel at ease in front of the camera and took us to one of the most stunning places we have ever been. We really couldn’t have asked for anything else. They were worth every penny so don’t hesitate to contact them and book!”
Erin and George’s snowy hiking elopement in the Canadian Rockies was the ultimate adventure. We had the best time getting to know these two and sharing what was such a special and unique morning together.
